2019-2020 Players of the Year and All Americans

WINTERNATIONAL JUNIOR SERIES AT PINEHURST HONORS
2019-2020 PLAYERS of the YEAR AND ALL AMERICANS

The twenty-sixth annual Winternational Junior Series at Pinehurst concluded its season this weekend on the Pinehurst No. 1 Course. Over one hundred and fifty school boys and girls were members during the 2019-2020 Season.  The Winternationals, an eight-tournament series, has been based in Pinehurst since its inception and conducts championships on all of the Pinehurst Championship layouts.  Competition was held in three separate divisions, Junior/Senior, Freshman/Sophomore and Girls. Only a player’s top four finishes count towards the POY honors in each age division.
In the Junior-Senior Division, Adam Hathaway of Greenville, NC took home Player of the Year (POY) honors with his stellar play this series. The JH Rose High School Senior captured three event titles with his lowest finish being sixth in the first event of the year. Others from the Junior-Senior Division named All-Americans were; Owen Woods (Maxton, NC), Jonathan Rich (Rockingham, NC), Sam Haggas (Winston-Salem, NC)

Alan Van Asch of Raleigh, NC led the way much of the season and never finished outside the top three in his first four events, including two wins to claim POY honors in the Freshman/Sophomore Division. Van Asch, a sophomore out of Leesville Road High School had a 75.21 scoring average in seven events. Others from the Freshman/Sophomore Division named All-Americans were; Gray Mitchum (Winterville, NC), Benjamin Bailey (Huntersville, NC), Peter Nusbaum (Pittsboro, NC), Keenan Royalty (Raleigh, NC), David Oliver (Pageland, SC)

In the Girls Division, Lotte Fox of Raleigh earned POY honors in her first and only season. The Wakefield senior dominated the second half of the season with three wins, one second place finish and one third place finish. Ella Perna of Durham, NC earned All-American honors along with Jaclyn Kenzel of Southern Pines, NC and Mara Hirtle who both accomplished this feet for the second year in a row.

Ten high school boys and four girls were awarded All-American status because of their tournament results for the eight events.  The point system is based on the four highest point totals for each individual across the eight-event series.  The Winternational All-Americans and their hometown are:
