Winternational Event 4 Cut Short by Weather

VILLAGE OF PINEHURST, NC
December 20, 2009

Event #4 of the 2009-2010 Winternational Junior Series cancelled Saturday’s round due to travel concerns for most participants.  The resulting 18-hole event was contested on Pinehurst No.6 Sunday, and despite tough wintery conditions the contestants were able to maintain their focus and produce good scores.

Austin Dunlap of Pinehurst fired a determined 37-34=71, garnering him a two-shot lead and his second win of the Series.  One birdie on the front nine and two on the back were big keys to Dunlap’s victory.  Bryan Stewart of Pinehurst and Lee Ramsey of Charlotte, each with a 73, tied for second.  The remaining top five spots were filled by Andrew Fowler from Cary, NC, with a 74, and Marshall Ritchie of Concord, NC with a 76.

In the Freshman-Sophomore Division, Kyle Kochevar of Glen Ellyn, IL claimed his first victory of the season with a one under-par 37-33=70. Chris Hickman of Centerville, MD and Erik Benson of Norwood, NC, tied for second with 76.  Benjamin Dietrich 42-40= 82, of Conover, NC and Sean Chang 41-46=87, of Aberdeen took fourth and fifth respectively.

The Girls Division saw Summer Barmore of Pinehurst claim her first victory finishing with an 81, three shots ahead of second place Brooke Kochevar of Glen Ellyn, IL. Finishing third was Elizabeth Hall of Pinehurst with an 88.
