2006-2007 Winternational Player of the Year Honors Shulby Award, & All-American Team Members

The 13th Annual Winternational Junior Series at Pinehurst concluded it’s season today at the Pinehurst’s George and Tom Fazio designed No. 6 course.  Fifty high school boys were members during the 2006-2007 season.  The Winternationals, a nine tournament series, has been based in Pinehurst since it’s inception and conducts championships on seven of the eight Pinehurst Championship layouts.  Competition is held in two separate divisions, Junior/Senior Boys and Freshman/Sophomore Boys.

In the Junior/Senior Division, Andrew Kay of Pittsford, NY claimed Player of the Year honors by winning every event he entered in the 2006-2007 season.  Kay, currently a high school Senior and second year Series Member, will be attending The University of Maryland in the Fall and competing on the Men’s Golf Team.

In the Freshman/Sophomore Division, Brandon Jobe of Fayetteville, NC capped off an impressive season with Player of the Year honors.  Jobe, a Series newcomer, dominated the last half of the Series with a stretch of five consecutive event wins.

For the second time in its thirteen-year history, The Winternational Junior Series Committee named a Bud Shulby Memorial Sportsmanship Award winner.  The late Bud Shulby, former ten-year rules official for the Winternational Junior Series and husband to current thirteen-year rules official, Ellen Shulby, displayed the morals and ethics intertwined in the game of golf.  This year’s recipient, also Player of the Year, was Brandon Jobe.   Jobe’s attitude and demeanor during competition this season demonstrated the qualities recognized by this award.

The Series also named its 13th Annual Winternational Junior Series All-American team.  Eight high school boys were awarded All-American status through their tournament results for the nine events.  The point system is based on the four top finishes of each individual.  The Winternational All-Americans, their division and hometowns are listed below:
