Event 5

Wade and Poole Victorious at Pinehurst
Village of Pinehurst, North Carolina - January 16, 2005

The Winternational Junior Series of Golf completed its 5th event of the season on Donald Ross’ Course No. 1 this weekend. Cool weather was present both days as the temperatures did not get above 45. Sunday’s final round presented cold temperatures in addition to a brief period of a wintry mix.

In the Junior Senior Boy’s Division, Joe Poole, Jr. of Raeford, NC captured his first victory of the season. Poole, a past All-American, staked himself to an eight stroke lead on Saturday by carding an even par round of 70. Poole matched three first round bogeys with three birdies to record the low score of the weekend. During Sunday’s final round, Poole lead was never in serious danger. The closest anyone got was Danny Dolan of Lake Forest, IL who finished four shots back of Poole. Dolan shot 78-77 for a 155 total and Chris Melone came in third at 156. Tied for fourth at 163 were Justin Sellin of Bolivar, MO and Michael Bartz of Charlotte, NC.

Jonathan Wade also claimed his first Winternational victory in the Freshman Sophomore Boy’s Division. Wade, the Greensboro, NC native, held a one stroke lead overnight by carding a three over par 73. Kevin MacDonald of Pinebluff, NC was in second with a first round 74 and two-time winner Hunter Howell of Raeford, NC was two shots back. In Sunday’s final round, each of the three contestants held the lead at some point during the round. In the second to last group, Chason Trahan of Charlotte, NC made a charge by carding a two over par 72 to be the leader in the clubhouse at 153. On the 18th hole with a one shot lead, Wade was unable to get up and down from behind the green and made bogey. Howell, two shots back at the time just missed a twenty foot birdie put to tie to finish second. MacDonald finished tied for third after finishing with a bogey five. Wade’s 73-78-151 total also earned him the medalist honors for this week’s event as well.

The next event will be February 4 – 6 on Pinehurst No. 2. For more information please contact Peter de Young at 910-295-5661.
